The City of Nym

Description

A section of the novel I am currently writing is set in this city and its surroundings. As stated in the title above, its name is Nym, and it is spelled like the French Nîmes.

The character portrayed in "Everything I have done" used to live in the ancient quarters of the city (SW corner) which were eventually burned and pillaged by the enraged mob.

The picture is generously brought at 25% of its original size. It started from a rough map for storytelling purposes, however it has changed into this... thing I am particularly proud of. :)

Perhaps someone may argue this one cannot be qualified as conventional art. All I can say in reply is, it conveyed to me the same feeling a drawing usually does.
Btw, a LOT of photoshop and handwork.

Edit- Nym is a very ancient city. Times of war, wealth, and social turmoil have shaped its structure and made it unlike any other. It's structure is three-folded, and yet every sector features several layers of history.

The original settlement was located around the great square in the S-Eastern section. Its encircling walls can still be seen, though they have been partially encapsulated by newer households. A stronghold on top of the hill was put in order to watch over the rivercrossing and the main road running across the upper section of the map.
After a long age of wars, the city fell into abandon and decay, until the former rulers of the region(which the tradition refer to be great Kings) granted command of this city to a group of Erdü. The Erdü were an exiled kin arrived from the other side of the known world, they had had their own language and culture, but they had proven to be extremely versatile and open-minded. They used their knowledge to bring new life to the city by restoring its ancient buildings and renaming it after their lost homeland, Nym. They created the city's most notable landmark, the Suntower, which you can notice on the N sector. People were then drawn back from their wretched lives in the nearby mountains, and the city began to grow despite continuous warfare in the region. The Erdü and their noblest families considered themselves lords of Nym and its surroundings, and built for themselves a number of great palaces in the S-W sector of the city. After several centuries of wealth, the Erdü were overthrown and massacred by the enraged native population. The Knights of the city, a powerful guild grown with the aid of the Erdü sparkled the fires of revolt and sectarian strife. They eventually cancelled most traces of existence of their former protectors, and established a new rule for their citystate.
Since the fires which destroyed the ancient Erdü palaces, Nym appears as it stood for 2 millennia, for it enjoys a formidable defensive system and no army can threaten it.
